April 2010 — Christopher Jarvinen to Speak at Corporate Restructuring Conference of the Instituto Argentino de Derecho Comercial on Investor Protections
Bankruptcy partner Christopher Jarvinen will speak at a conference sponsored by the Instituto Argentino de Derecho Comercial (Argentina Institute of Commercial Law) to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina on April 12. Christopher’s panel will highlight ways that investors in Argentina and the United States have effectively protected their interests in corporate restructurings.
February 2010 — Christopher Jarvinen to Speak at American Bankruptcy Institute Conference on the Liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, LLC
Bankruptcy partner Christopher Jarvinen will speak at the 2010 Caribbean Insolvency Symposium on a panel titled “Cross Border Issues: Madoff Goes Offshore,” which will be held at the Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton, Florida on February 12. The panel will cover recent actions by Irving H. Picard, the court-appointed trustee in the liquidation proceeding of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC under the Securities Investor Protection Act, to “clawback,” that is, recover assets from both U.S. and non-U.S. investors who received more in cash distributions than they invested with the now defunct investment securities company. Christopher also serves on the advisory board of the Caribbean Insolvency Symposium, one of the annual flagship conferences of the American Bankruptcy Institute. October 2009 — Christopher Jarvinen to Author a Chapter on the U.S. Bankruptcy Code’s Chapter 15
Bankruptcy partner Christopher Jarvinen has been invited to author a chapter in the Annual Survey of Bankruptcy Law on chapter 15 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Christopher will provide a statistical analysis of chapter 15 cases from the inception of chapter 15 during 2005 to the present and will also comment upon recent developments reflecting the flexible approach that U.S. Bankruptcy Courts are taking with respect to cross-border corporate insolvencies.

Bankruptcy partner Christopher Jarvinen spoke at the Primeiro Encuentro Interamericano Derecho Concursal (First Annual Inter-American Conference on Restructuring Law) on a panel titled “Developments in Cooperation and Coordination - Corporate Groups,” which was held at the Meliá Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires, Argentina on September 15. Christopher’s panel discussed approaches in Argentina, Brazil and the United States regarding financing and litigation matters involving the restructurings of corporate groups.

August 2009 — H&H attorneys, led by Partner Lee Podair, have contributed to the New York State Chapter of the “Commercial Lending Law: A State by State Guide”, recently published in book format by the Commercial Finance Committee of the American Bar Association. The Guide summarizes pertinent commercial lending laws for all 50 states, plus DC and Puerto Rico, and should be of significant assistance to practitioners.
April 2009 — Christopher Jarvinen Spoke at American Bar Association Conference on the issue of Financing for Cross-Border Corporate Debtors
Bankruptcy partner Christopher Jarvinen spoke at the 2009 Spring Meeting of the Section of Business Law of the American Bar Association on a panel titled “Annual Review in Developments in Business and Corporate Litigation Program,” held in Vancouver, Canada on April 16. The panel covered recent corporate and litigation developments under U.S. and Canadian law. Christopher discussed the approaches being made by international corporate debtors to obtain approval for financing under chapter 15 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

The program, entitled “The Credit Crisis, The ‘Bailout’ And Other Efforts To Deal With The Crisis, and Their Impact on Secured Lenders In Canada and the United States,” discussed the international credit crisis with regard to Canada and the United States, the Federal Bailout, the Canada solution for its ABS market, and their impact on secured lenders.

Bankruptcy partner Christopher Jarvinen spoke at a meeting of Brazilian investors sponsored by a private organization in Campinas, Brazil on recent developments in forming funds to invest in distressed corporate assets. As a part of his presentation, Christopher discussed the challenges faced by such investors in the United States and Brazil.

Bankruptcy partner Christopher Jarvinen spoke at the 2009 Caribbean Insolvency Symposium on a panel titled “New and Exciting Developments Under Chapter 15,” which was held at the Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa in the Cayman Islands on February 6. The panel covered recent developments under the chapter 15 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Christopher focused his presentation on recent developments related to debtor-in-possession financing and cash collateral relief involving debtors from Canada and Latin America. Christopher also serves on the advisory board of the Caribbean Insolvency Symposium, one of the annual flagship conferences of the American Bankruptcy Institute.
